(San Antonio, TX) — The Tina Torres campaign is touting its grassroots support, after over 150 community leaders and concerned citizens packed Tina Torres’ campaign HQ in San Antonio’s southside today.
Said Torres, “It means a lot to see so many friends here today, because what we’re fighting for is so important. We know that what our community needs is education so our kids can start businesses and get good paying jobs. John Garza and Republicans in the legislature had the chance to do what was right. Instead, they chose to cut $4 billion from our schools.”
Cuts to public education pushed through the legislature by the Republican supermajority cut $4 billion from public schools and over $1 billion from higher education. In Bexar County alone, over $300 million has been cut from public schools – and some estimates say that as much as $100 million will be cut in District 117 alone. That’s more than $6,800 cut from our schools for each person that voted for tea party Republican John Garza in 2010.
Added Torres, “My parents used to tell me, there are times when you have no choice but to take a stand. This is one of those times.”
